Social Media Marketing For Dealers PDF Print E-mail

You've probably heard your kids or your employees talking about Myspace or Facebook.  You might even be a member yourself.  You probably read a blog online (or know someone who does) and you've probably seen some funny videos on YouTube.

The question you have is, "how can all this new stuff sell more cars and service"?

Hopefully you haven't taken the bad advice of an employee or ad agency and randomly created a Myspace profile for your dealership and used it to annoy your customers.

You simply can't treat Social Media like traditional advertising.

Advertising is shouting "hey look at me" across a crowded room while Social Media Marketing is whispering "hey, let's sit down and talk" to the person standing next to you.

Creating a Myspace page for your business and then spamming people to join so you can further spam them with offers that are irrelevant is NOT social marketing.  Putting your TV Commercials on YouTube is NOT social marketing (unless they are hillarious like Suburban Auto Group's Trunk Monkey spots).

Social Media Marketing is, however, the process of identifying what your target customers are interested in (what they find relevant) and then creating content that draws them to your business.

Simply stated, Social Media Marketing is about starting a conversation with your customers and engaging them in it.

Let's say you write a blog about how great your salespeople and your service advisors are.  How many people will bother to read it?  Or, maybe you make a bunch of videos showing of your dealership and upload them to YouTube.  How many people will watch them?

On the other hand, let's say you offer tips and advice on Facebook and Twitter.  Or, you have instructional videos showing people how to check their oil or check their tire pressure on Youtube (you could film this in minutes right on your lot).  Do you think that would get a far greater response and endear people to your dealership?  Do you think people would want to SHARE that with their friends?

We can advise and assist you in creating a social media presence and managing it along the way.  One warning about this medium - it's not a "set it and forget it" solution. This will take some "work" on your part but we are here to do the heavy lifting.

Social Media Marketing is one of the most powerful business tools to come along and can work wonders for the select few dealers that are willing to put the work in.

Afterall, becoming someone's "friend" takes time.
