Direct mail?  Wait a minute! You guys do all that high-tech marketing.  Isn't direct mail ancient history?

Not at all.

What is the one thing that everyone in America has (with the exception of hobos)?

A mailbox. 

If you don't believe us, look out your front door.  Unless you are the recent victim of a group of baseball-bat weilding teenagers then it's a safe bet that you've got one too.

Now, doing direct mail the old way is ancient history. 

For direct mail to be effective it has to do the following:

1. Get opened - you'd be surprised how much gets thrown away unopened.  Actually, you probably wouldn't. How many unopened pieces of junk mail did you toss today?

2. Not make your customers angry.  Who would do business with a company that starts off their marketing by lying to you?  I'm talking about those mailers that look like checks or IRS refunds or audit notices or FedEx envelopes.  Hi, you know that tax refund check you were counting on to pay for that new HDTV?  Just kidding, how'd you like to buy a car or sign up for long distance?  You can trust us. 

3. Give them a reason to take the next step. Most direct mail is just a brochure that someone didn't ask for. 

Direct mail that works is a compelling offer to a highly targeted demographic that will welcome your message.  They will welcome it because you've taken the time to tailor it to them (making it Relevant).
